"Life begins at the end of your comfort zone." - Neale Donald Walsch
Most people wouldn't guess that I'm an Engineer by education and training. I'm much too disorganized and spontaneous. It drives my husband crazy a lot. But other times it leads to great adventures.

My passion is constant learning. Most often that is conveyed in travel. I've made it a goal to introduce are young kids to a new country every year. So far we've only hit up Costa Rica and Iceland with them. We opted to travel to Cambodia, Thailand, Tanzania, Croatia, Bosnia, Montenegro, France, Belize and Dominican Republic without them. This year we will be adding China to their list. I believe that experiencing life through others' lives enrich our own appreciation and compassion.

My day job is that I lead stewardship for a fairly large real estate developer based in the Southeast. That means I'm in charge of green building on our project. I oversee our corporate social responsibility platform (CSR) and run our philanthropy and community partnerships. It's an extremely rewarding job that challenges me on a daily basis. Josh works for NC-based General Contractor. His passion is in historic renovations. He's done some very cool cool jobs ranging from major DC buildings to a high profile theatre in LA.

"Make something of yourself son,"  the saying goes,  "or you'll end up living in a van down by the river."
But what if you've always wanted to live in a van by the river?

Since I can remember I've always been attracted to small spaces.  A closet turned into a mini-bedroom,  a fort in the forest,  the cabin of my parents sailboat,  the back of a truck while we camped.   What seemed like roughing it to everyone else seemed to me to be the more sensible way to live.  Less stuff meant less stuff to buy, less time at work to afford it, and less to take care of later.

Over the years an apartment with a bicycle and a kayak hanging from the ceiling became a tiny off-grid organic farm nestled in the rainforest on the north Oregon Coast, an old Subaru wagon, and a kayak workshop.  These days I find myself heading back toward my minimalist roots,  shifting gears,  downsizing, and exploring the world as I move toward expanding into more full time sustainability consulting work.

Imagine a world of people living richer, happier lives in beautiful little energy efficient homes with big gardens surrounding them.  That's the world I want to live in,  so I'm building it, one project at a time!
